Canadian could lose their citizenship under new legislation soon to be introduced in reaction to Times Square bomb aftermath. US already changed their legislation. The US State Department clarifies that legislation will apply to seven categories of acts that could result in loss of citizenship. They include serving in the armed forces of a foreign state at war with the United States/Canada, renouncing nationality when the United States/Canada is at war, and treason.

The bill would expand the revocation law to anyone who provides material support or
resources to a foreign terrorist organization. It also would apply to anyone who engages in, or supports, suspect of involvement, hostilities against the US/Canada or its allies.

Now the question arise that are we struggling to get Canadian Citizenship to lose it merely on suspicious grounds?

I doubt the losing citizenship based on suspicious act thing. A thorough investigation will be carried out before a man can be adjudged guilty. I think that will be the right procedure.

Agree but in principle its Acquiring Canadian Citizenship to loose it.

So you're saying that you'd rather not bother getting the citizenship because you just "might" lose it?

The issue is that you precious 6 years of life is the youth, which you spend dying for Canadian immigration Visa process and then 3-4 years struggling for PR to citizenship. Its literally your 10 best years that you miss for the sake of Nationality.

Most of the people on this forum accept this reality and still apply, but the crux of matter is What if you struggle 10 years to get nationality and on the 11th year you loose it?

How will you look back to your life, you simply will curse why you were in rat race. I'm just wondering if our citizenship is taken back. Before the incident happen there was no such thinking but with the new legislation everything changed.

You'll soon start hearing on court cases where the citizenship start getting withdrawn then..!!

I think its a good law.
It is there to protect all of us. Canada is not unfair to just take away anyone's citizenship.

By the way, you said 6 year of your youth applying for immigration visa. You should still be building your career and life during those 6 years. The next 3 to 4 years might be hard, but the first 6, should be spent as normal as possible.

i think this law should be enacted asap. why go to Canada & gain citizenship if u don't love & respect Canada. this is a law that is aimed at protecting citizens. i am staying now in UK & there has been many laws passed here since 9/11 bombings in USA & 7/7 bombings in UK. but none of them, in my knowledge, has been used to punish, insult or identify any particular religion & community in UK. and i think Canada will be no exception. i support this law.
