Looking to Extend visitor visa for boyfriend but have some questions..

Hey there.

My boyfriend came to visit me back in December 2013 and is still here with a 6 month granted visitor visa. He is from the UK. We are looking to apply to extend his stay by the end of this month to be safe. He has a return ticket for June 8th so if he is denied he will still have a way to get back home but we are looking to hopefully get him to stay.

My question is really how do I go about it and do I need a "proof of funds"? I'm currently unemployed with the support of my mother and she gladly stated she would write a letter up stating she would help support him, but would that be okay to do? We want to get another 6 months at least so we can explore our relationship more and hopefully by the 1 year mark apply for common law and by then I'll also have work of my own. If she was to write a letter can it be typed up and signed or should it be hand written? And can this all be sent in online via email (online application) I'm worried they will reject him if she wants to support him as she is also supporting me but is also in a different province at the moment until October of this year.

I don't want to worry too much but I'm just looking for a little help on what to do. Any info or examples would be greatly appreciated!

Also, if applying for PR is an option, when am I able to get him to apply for that? Doesn't he have to live in Canada for 3-5 years? I'm confused on that also

You can sponsor him for PR as your partner once you are either married or common law. Common law means that you have lived together for a minimum of one full year and can prove it. There is no living in Canada requirement - you must be thinking of citizenship.

It would be better if he provided his own proof of funds to demonstrate that he has enough money available to extend his stay. Can he do that?

At the moment no. He used his funds for this past 6 months he's been here.
I've read else where that my mom could support him with a letter. I would support him once I find a job but work hasn't come easy here.
If he is granted 6 months then we can apply for common-law which gives us more time to prove our relationship and I should have a job by that time as I'm currently looking now. I've also heard about how people just sent away the basic package application without proof of anything and got accepted for 6 months to a year.

Different people have different stories. Never look at other people immigration stories. The devil is in the details.

Get a job in Tim Horton's while looking for another, a proper one.

It is a VERY strange situation when somebody's mother sponsor an adult man. However, you may try.

Your mother has to write a letter (better notarized) and to prove that she has that income to support three adults (herself, you and him, and may be more siblings?) You friend also has to explain to CIC what reasons he has to extend his stay.

We want to explore our relationship to begin common law sponsorship.
My mom moved out to Fort Mac 3 years ago and has a good job and could most likely provide for us 3. I was just wondering if it was a possibility. What do you mean by Notarized? Typed out?
