I am looking for feedback from TFW's regarding their experience coming to Canada and starting employment.

I am wondering what types of things your employer could have done to make the transition easier on you, or a better experience overall. (Job Orientation, Communication, Training, Expectations, Assistance, etc)

If your employer was looking for your feedback on the experience, what kinds of questions would you be willing to, or want to answer?

Thank You

Hi, I was a tfw when I first came to Canada.
My employer had 5 or 6 restaurants at the time, and at this point I would say they have employed 100 plus tfw. And adding 2 more branches, I've heard.

Basically we haven't met or talked to our employer before we get to Canada, So that is a bit scary on it self.
I was under a really big agency that handled all of that for us. (Make sure job offer, lmo and visa is processed properly and is genuine.)

When we got here, we were welcomed at the airport by both the owner and the general manager.
Before hand they have looked for a suitable accommodation for us, in which we can choose to stay or eventually find a place of our own.
This was just an initial one, so we can get used to the environment and way of living. etc.
There were also other tfw in the housing that we met and was able to help us adjust. Cause they were here a month earlier.
First thing they did was let us settle in and rest. lol. of course the jet lag sucks at first.

The next morning. They picked us up to give us a tour of the store where we are gonna work in and introduced us to our to be co-workers. And a little tour of the City. Where the important stuff are like shopping and restaurants etc. They were very nice to give us $100 dollars Walmart gift card each to tie us over for groceries until we get our first pay check.

I can't remember if it was the same day or next day, they brought us to get out SIN, Health card application and to a bank to open our chequing account.

On the first week we were given shifts that were the same as one of our house mates in order for them to teach us how to go to work and get home, by public transit of course.

Our employer also offered 50% subsidy for bus passes.

Over all my first employer was good, it just took a long time for promotions because of so many tfw that I was hired by a different company for a hire position.

With regard to training, this restaurant chain offers a full video training that we completed. We also had the manager or supervisor train us on floor. And had a "buddy" right behind us to help us if we had problems with the actual work.
