Hello.

My parents supervisa expired recently, and my parents sponsorship application is still in queue (applied in June 2019). Unfortunately my father passed away very recently, and I am trying to figure out the best/fastest way possible so my mother can visit me here.

Is there a thing such as "extension of supervisa"? My mother is not in canada.

What is the best course of action here?

Thank you all for your responses.

There is such a thing as an extension - but this doesn't apply to your situation. It would only apply if your mother was still in Canada and looking to extend her stay before the super visa expired.

Your mother needs to apply for a brand new visa - either a regular TRV or a super visa.

Thats what I thought.

Should I apply for a TRV, Super Visa or wait for the Immigration process to finish? From your experience, what is the best course of action here?

We are hitting a 20th month mark on my parents sponsorship application and I just sent a web form to CIC updating them that my father passed away recently and I want to make my mother the principal applicant. They haven't gotten back to me yet though.

I don't know how long you have left on the PR application. You should ask this question in the 2019 PGP thread to get feedback on processing times. If you have submitted a request to switch primary applicants, that might reasonably add more processing time to your application.

You can certainly apply for a TRV or super visa in parallel with waiting for the PR application to be processed. Really your choice. Processing times for TRVs / super visas are on the longer end right now due to COVID so you'd want to get the application in as soon as you can. Given you want to bring your mother for a longer term visit, super visa is better aligned to the intent of her visit. But again, your choice.

Thank you. You are helpful as always.

I was hoping switching primary applicants may make the case simpler and may fast track the application since now they have to work on it to make the change. I might be overly optimistic here. My parents never received the medical request though.

Agree with you on supervisa application. However, is it not an issue to have two applications running in-parallel? Is there a place where we have to disclose that or will the UCI identifier automatically pick it up on their end?

Changes to an application very rarely result in fast-tracking. Typically the opposite. But you can always hope.

No issues applying for the super visa in parallel. You can go ahead.
