I just wanted to share my experience with you as I tought it could be helpful. So I applied for citizenship many years after I've become a PR. One year after I applied, I had to leave the country to give birth abroad because I wanted to be surrounded with family. I had to fly back to take my test. The interview went well, I explaned my situation to the officer and brought proof of employment, and also my husband work permit visa confirmation, and he didn't ask more about it but took the proof, he aslo checked my passeports really carefully and. told me I woul be called for oath in one to three months. Indeed I received my oath letter nearly two months after my test. I didn't get an rq, and had to fly back for the oath ceremony. Butom line is that as long as you are honest and maintain strong ties to Canada in addition to proof that your stay abroad is temporary there's nothing to be worry about. Now I'll be able to sponsor my children from abroad and are done worrying about residence requirements and most important I'm a citizen of a. country I love deeply. I hope my experience will be helpful to others and wish you a best of luck with your applications

you have no obligation to stay in canada after filled your citizenship and no law can stop you from becoming a citizen if you left the country.if they reject you they should have a reason.they cannot tell you that they reject your citizenship because you left the country .there is not such a law for rejection

Did you ever wonder what would have happened if you weren't pregnant and you left the country for 1 year just to come back the eve of the test ??? I bet you would be asking questions about how to submit RQ and where to get this and that document.

RQ is related to trip before the applications are being sent not the trips after that

I think that the reason why I didn't get Rq is because I had evidence that I intend to go back to Canada like employment letter ext, it had nothing to do with my pregnancy/maternity leave. Anyway many people are worried about trips/leaving while application in process, that's why I thought sharing this could be helpuful.

Congratulations Bibouna on your citizenship and on your twins!

I definitely agree that honesty is mandatory and one's chance of fair and timely processing are increased by strong ties in Canada and proof of only temporary stays abroad. But I want to point out that there's a lot of variations in people's timelines and treatment based on luck and dozens of other factors, so unfortunately there are no guarantees with the CIC and with citizenship processing. Certainly people who applied during a different time period in your situation or different citizenship officer would have likely gotten RQ.

Luckily RQs seem less common now, and anecdotal reports like yours are helpful in giving a general sense of these trends, but I wanted to post as a reminder that no individual's experience can be entirely predictive of anyone else's. Unfortunately, there are a lot of honest people with strong ties to Canada who have had to worry about the timeliness and fairness of their citizenship processing.

I agree with you Eileen, but there's nothing that says one cannot leave temporary, besides I payed my taxes for the last year and still is an employee here as I'm on maternity leave (wich can be spent abroad) and my husband has got his work permit to settle down here. I also applied after many many years as a PR (the officer ask me question about that and understand that I wanted to develop strong sense of belonging to this country before I apply) so all of this together seemed to be enough for the officer. Maybe if I didn't had proof that my husband were coming things could have been different, I also have
all my savings in Canada (brought proof of that too).So I don't think I was just lucky, my case
was strong and I went there well prepared (thanks to this forum). but as you said every situations are
different, I just wanted to share mine to be helpful to people that could
be in situation similar to mine.
