I Immigrated from the United states about ten years ago. I want to know what Canadian law states about Immigrants who are from the states, who can work back in there homeland, in my case, the US, to pursue a temporary job up to one year. I like living here, but the job difficulties of finding work are really something else "those who are reading this, from another country, think twice about immigrating to Vancouver BC region"

Anyway, I would plan on, if possible, to fly in to be with the wife on some weekends. What does Canadian immigration law say about this? And yes, I would be splitting my income tax between both countries as I already know this.

Thanks much.

There is nothing wrong with that, in terms of being a landed immigrant in order to maintain your status you just have to live here 2 years out of 5, and those 2 don't even have to be continuous. So a job for one year, that will be no problem at all.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5445EA.asp

the table there lays out the requirements to maintain PR status, so you just gotta live in Canada 730 days out of 5 years, not too bad at all.

In terms of what you said about jobs, I have to agree, I think the economy in Canada is just as bad and probably worse than the U.S despite what the numbers say, especially for highly educated people. Plus the cost of living here is brutal when compared to the U.S, the U.S is far cheaper in almost every way.

It makes no sense to me that people keep immigrating here, for a highly educated person that's almost like committing career suicide.
