hello,
i am a British citizen. i studied and graduated from a Canadian university, and immediately acquired a Post-Grad work permit and started working. I have since been in full-time employment (3 years). i started my current job 2 years ago, my post-grad work permit will expire in late January 2011, so i want to apply for a Temp Work Permit. Do i need a LMO for this application if i started my current job on a post-grad work permit that didnt require me to have an LMO.
thanks very much :)

Yes, your employer (not you) needs to obtain a positive LMO, however, because you are converting from a PGWP, your employer does not have to demonstrate recruitment efforts. But the position has to be skilled (NOC O, A or B) and your employer has to be willing to indicate that the job is temporary with "intent to permanent." (Assuming you will be applying PR). You don't have a lot of time, your employer should apply for the LMO now.

thanks so much for your help, i really appreciate it.

so, just to confirm - because i had a PGWP when i started here my employers does not need to prove they attempted to recruit for the position (section 51)?
would they select "no" and then in explanation say "employee was on PGWP" ?

also, no insult intended at all, but how do you know this? do you work for a CIC office in Buffalo, NY (just looking at your profile?

thanks once again! so much!

also... section 38.... if i am already working in this current position, and have been for over 2 years, what start date should i put? the original start date years back? or an approximative date when my employer should expect to receive a positive LMO back (fingers crossed)?
thanks

Hi Will!

I'll need to get LMO, too, but didn't really start doing anything about it yet since my work permit expires in June. I would really appreciate if you could advise where did you look for forms & process.

Thanks in advance & good luck!

Something like that :)

Na. I can Google and I can read - that's all :)

No insult perceived. It's good to wish for some kind of verification - this is just a forum with a lot of opinions after all.

Click here and then look for the link at the top that says "international students"

I have wondered that myself. Since it is a "new" LMO (and in my case, I would have a new contract), I consididered as the start date of the new contract - so the latter ... I would put a date shortly before the expiration of your current work permit, if that is feasible.

Or, call HRSDC and tell me what they say :0

An ASAP will suffice, meaning you start once you received your WP, that is if you no longer have a valid WP.
