I own a small business here in BC Canada.
I need to hire one more employee I only employ 3 at the moment.

I need an employee that will do basic bookkeeping be a cashire, be a jack or Jill of all trades.

I have had prblems with employing this type of person.

They either want a lot of money for doing basic bookkeeping and dont want to dust and clean shelves or cashier and deal with customers.

Or they only want to stand behind the counter and wait for customers.

I would like to hire someone that can do everything.

Its a small business and I cant afford to hire 3 people to do the job that one person can do if they can multi task.

Am I eligable to hire a forein worker??

Thanks

It sounds like you're trying to get a cheap employee to do expensive work. I don't think HRSDC will approve a LMO for that. If the employee is doing bookkeeping, you'll have to pay an average wage for a bookkeeper. As far as I know, there is no 'jack of all trades' position for a LMO either.

As far as can you afford to hire one, there's no way to know. We don't know your finances and I don't suggest you post them online.

I can afford a bookkeeper but thats only a couple hours a day. Im not looking for cheap labour as minimum wage is $10.25 an hour even for a 16 y/o with no experience. here.

LMOs are for full time employees only. If you hire someone to do book keeping, you'll have to pay them full time wages for a bookkeeper.

On the other hand, if you hire a cashier and have her do book keeping too and HRSDC finds out, you could get into trouble. All it would take is the employee finding out she's being shorted as a book keeper, then demand more pay. If you say no, then she could report you and trouble....

You also have to turn in a job description to HRSDC.

Unless you have an employee in mind and know you can trust her, hiring a TFW doesn't really sound like an option.

Just a question, but where is your Team Leader? Add 50 cents an hour to someone, make them a TL and have them direct the cleaning and customer service. Write up work lists, delegate cleaning. It sounds like you need someone to help with authority and task management.

Move to AB and hire me :p

As long as the job description and salary make sense and match normal standards for Canada, then any application is okay. However, getting HRSDC to understand why you can't find someone in Canada to do that job is harder.

Is this person someone you know and trust to work in Canada? If you can trust her, apply for the cashier LMO. You can 'promote' her later or give her a small raise to account for the book keeping. As long as you trust her to work for you, it should be fine.

Just talk about her plans. If she wants to stay in Canada permanently, she may want a manager job because that qualifies for CEC.

Thanks for the info very much appreciated. I have people here that will apply for the job but mostly millitary spouses and are gone in a few months.

Plus they know their days are numbered so they dont work.

Hi there, in fact anyone who is working in Canada on an LMO-based work permit cannot just take on new job duties or get a pay raise without the employer informing HRSDC and getting approval to continue hiring them under the same LMO/WP or applying for a new one, if directed. A lot of employers run into trouble because they think they're rewarding good workers by promoting them or rasing their wages without realizing that the terms of the LMO/WP (including job duties and wages) must be strictly adhered to.
