Hi all,

I came across a post on this forum that discussed that no LMO was required for Software developers. Is that correct?
I would appreciate any inputs/experience on this...
I'm also not sure what counts as software developer. Does cic specify it? Eg. whats with database administrators??

cheers.

Nope, it has ended last Sept 30, 2010. Here's the full article: http://www.hrsdc.gc.ca/eng/workplaceskills/foreign_workers/communications/ITendNotice.shtml

However, if you're going to work in Quebec it is extended until further notice.
If you're going to work in BC, it is extended (twice) until Sept 30, 2011. Article here: http://www.hrsdc.gc.ca/eng/workplaceskills/foreign_workers/itbc.shtml

It is only exempt for those 7 occupations which are:
Senior Animation Effects Editor
Embedded Systems Software Designer
MIS Software Designer
Multimedia Software Developer
Software Developer—Services
Software Products Developer
Telecommunications Software Designer

If you go to the full article here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/EnGLIsh/work/itw-jobs.asp#jobs5
it shows what skillsets you need to have to qualify as an IT worker, as well as other requirements (ie your new job description, etc). Your salary should also fall into the range they wrote there.

May I ask, what is your primary occupation?

Oh well, what was I thinking... :(

Anyway thanks a lot for your detailed response. If I understand you well I have no choice whatsoever.
I work as a SQL Server DBA and plan to do the same in the future. If you can just suggest agencies that deal with foreign workers that would be wonderful..if there's any. Or just please say what you think. Is that really impossible? I cannot go as a skilled worker(not on the NOC matrix) nor as a student (poor & expensive programs)..

Thanks!

btw, I spent my holidays last year on Palawan..most wonderful place ever! ;)

If you have a job offer, you can apply as a skilled worker with Arranged Employment (FSW2 - it's faster than FSW1 I believe).

I spent 5 years in the Philippines but unfortunately haven't been to Palawan yet...definitely one of my top places to go next time I visit

Yeah, the job offer..this is what I just cannot arrange. Getting the LMO is just hassle for the employers and I don't think either that they would wait 2-3 months until I get my TWP.

Thanks again and best of luck to you.
