Can someone please help me with this issue:

I'm a international student offered a internship in Toronto for about 19 weeks and currently in progress of applying for my work permit.
But when I asked the company to provide me with the LMO they told me that that isnt neccesasry and how they never had to provide one to no other previous intern. Also she said that there is no such a thing as a LMO for an internship.

So I wanted to know that this is true or will I need a LMO.

I also read about the possiblity to apply for the work permit at the port of entry, in my case at the airport when I arrive and I wanted to know if this is true and how long will it take to get my work permit.

Thanks for the help :)

Hi Mimszie,

I guess you are categorized under Co-op Students;

http://www.cic.gc.ca/English/study/work-coop.asp

and for LMOs, check this out;

http://www.cic.gc.ca/English/work/apply-who-permit.asp

Hope this helps. :)

Thanks for the reply.

But my problem is I'm not attending any Canadian university, so I do not have a study permit.

I'm coming for my internship as part of the university im attending on my island.

Then your employer requires an LMO so you can obtain a work permit.
