Hi,
This is a bit specific but I thought I'd check to see what the general opinion of folks is about this.
I currently work as a senior software developer for the UK office of a Canadian company. I've been asked to go over and work with our head office's development team (in Toronto) for a few months, leaving as soon as possible. The main purpose of the visit is to help out with a project very similar to one we've just completed in the UK whilst sharing ideas/processes with the team there.
While there I'll continue to be paid by the UK office into my UK bank.
Since we don't have time to apply for a Visa before leaving, the current plan is to apply for a Visa on arrival using the 250(a) exemption clause. There's no real time to apply for an LMO and I'm not really sure how this would work anyway - a main part of the role is to share information about how we run projects at our UK office, so they can't really post the job for two weeks (as I believe is the requirement) since nobody is going to fit the requirements.
I think I fit the specialised worker requirements but am a bit wary of packing up and heading over just to be turned back at the border. What the general opinion - has anyone had any similar experiences?
Also, on another note, my wife is planning to travel with me (although she'll not be working while there). If she was travelling on holiday, she'd not need a Visa as a UK passport holder, but does the situation change with my Visa?
Any opinions/suggestions would be very much welcomed.
Thanks!
K
