LMO approved, what's next?

Hi,

I am applying as a live-in caregiver in Canada. I am a registered nurse, and I just recently received the forwarded positive LMO from my employer in Canada. I am to apply for work permit now. I am following the document checklist for work permit application.

I just want to ask the following questions:
1) It is indicated in my work contract that they are expecting me to start working at JULY2014 but I know processing here in the Philippines takes longer and yes they are willing to wait. :) my employment contract indicates that my work contract starts JULY 2014 and ends 24 months after, but what if my application gets approved a year later, this would mean i only have a year left on my contract. will this affect my application? should i ask my employer to draft another employment contract prior to my application and change the expected dates of my employment?

2)should there really be a need to apply for IELTS? (it is part of the requirements in the document checklist. but some say you can just have your speak test. is IELTS really needed now?

3) can i immediately apply for medical examination and pass it with my work permit application? without prior notice from them?
i think you call it upfront medical examination. i saw it in one post.

4. I am a registered nurse and my only experience as a nurse is when I worked as a school nurse last 2010-2011. Right after that, I worked in a market research company which isn't nursing related. will my 4 year nursing education and license be enough to qualify me for the position. Will this suffice for the proof of training and experience?

PLEASE.. anyone here who can help me. please reply. :) I would really appreciate it. Please. :) :-*

1) Firstly, your passport needs to be valid beyond your net intended dates of contract. Otherwise, it is very likely that your work permit from the date of landing would be reduced to expiry of your passport. The other thing is, delay does not affect your application, but it will shorten the net duration on this wp i.e. you end up landing in Canada in say Jan 2015, you wp will go max up to July 2016 (2 years from July 2014 as you mentioned being the start date). Of course this assumes you passport is valid beyond expiry of wp. However, no body stops your employer from getting another LMO and renew your wp while being in Canada. The only limit is that you can work up to 4 year max on wp with some limited exceptions.

2) Short answer - i think it's better to IELTS for a live in caregiver. Over all, this varies from embassy to embassy and depending upon candidates profile too. E.g. i am from Pakistan where IELTS was not listed as a requirement until early 2013 at least. Still a lot of people got rejected / or asked to do it because of it - for low skilled jobs. I never took it nor was asked and went through. But again mine was a highly skilled job with lots of past experience in roles that couldn't do without english plus formal education in english. So don't risk being refused because of it unless there is a formal guideline in Philippines to take a speaking test (which i won't be aware of).

3) Almost in every embassy you can do upfront medicals. Just the procedures to get records updated differ.

4) This is a hard one to say but a 4 year formal education and license is a plus. Though duration of relevant job is also important as well as how recent that was. But it could go either way, if your current post / position is way better VO might assume you are only taking this as a means to get to Canada and might not continue with same profession. Or they could just take it as a better opportunity for you currently and let it go. At any rate being currently employed in home country is very very important. Else it is pretty much a sure shot refusal

on my fourth question, however, im still confused.. im working in a market research company now (basically not healthcare related)..the last time i worked as a nurse was last 2011. :) i have a 4year nursing degree and i am licensed too. but i am really not sure if this would be enough to qualify me for the position since currently i am not employed as one. my employer though said that my qualifications are good enough for the position. :) im just not sure. :)

i am really seeking further information with regards to this.
