Hii to all,
I have a query,
If the employer have a business which comes in a non essential business and it is closed from march first week due to coronavirus,
Will it will be possible that if he applyfor an LMIA, it will approve by service Canada.
Business is closed and remain closed until further notice from government.
Please advice

1. Why would EDSC issue a LMIA to a business that is closed? It obviously doesn't need another employee.

I think you didn't read, it is not permanently closed, it is temporary closed because of covid 19. It will start begin its operations when government noticed to reopen.

The challenge now with COVID may be that thousands of residents will become unemployed so the result of that may well be that competition for jobs will become intense including when an employer advertises for an LMIA job. So unless someone has unique skills and by advertising nobody else applies then you would expect LMIAs to continue to be approved although how long that might take who knows. On the other hand post COVID given Canada and many other countries will go into recession maybe LMIA applications will be suspended along with some other immigration programs, but thats all speculation even if common sense

But to answer your question nobody here knows if an application will be approved even without COVID so suggest maybe go ahead, pay the fee, advertise and see what happens

I think you are 100% correct. I think many people are not thinking this is a big possibility. There are a lot of business that have closed up. They know that they cant recover despite help from the government.

If the unemployment rate reaches let’s say hypothetically 20-25%, do you think the Government won’t take measures and curtail the LMIA /IEC program? This Government is a minority Government, and the last thing they’d want for it to appear , even if not happening in mass numbers, is bringing in foreign nationals to work or compete for jobs , when millions of Canadians are unemployed. I can see in the agriculture & fishing areas, but not in the urban areas .The opposition would have a field day
