Hi!
I’m in Canada on a tourist visa since January.
I’ve a job offer but my employer will apply for LMIA in a week or two. Is there a certain information that the government will refuse the LMIA applications because of Covid-19 pandemic? I want to make sure what I should do.
Should I apply to visitor status extension? We are in uncertainty and I don’t know what to do.
Is there anyone whose employer applied for LMIA after the pandemic restrictions?

The pandemic situation is really too new for us to be able to comment on LMIA approvals. However it's probably safe to assume it will be more difficult to get approvals with high unemployment rates. Make sure your employer meets the advertising requirements before applying and can prove they were not able to find a Canadian to hire for the role.

You should apply for an extension to your visit in Canada in May if your employer doesn't yet have a response on the LMIA.

Started typing this same time as Scylla but basically saying the same thing.

Depends on what your job is given one of the requirements for an LMIA is that an employer must advertise the job to ensure no resident is available. Given the the thousands of Canadian residents being laid off due to COVID there could be a challenge in meeting this requirement.

Have no information on whether IRCC will be pushing back LMIA applications although common sense implies maybe they should given the looming recession

In meantime advisable to apply for a visitor extension to remain legal.

Thank you for the replies!
The jobs NOC is 0621 wholesale establishment manager. My employer had ads posted since February and now able to apply for a LMIA. It is not a position which actually requires being “skilled”, but still there are some requirements for sure. That’s why I’m not sure if ESDC will accept this LMIA with the COVID situation.
I feel like I will have to go back to my country in the end. ‍

Your employer can certainly try. Make sure they keep advertising the job while the LMIA is being processed.
