I am a Canadian Citizen, born and raised, but have been living and working in England for the past 15 years.
In my time in England, I met my wife, got married and we have two young children.
We are planning to move to Canada within the next couple of years.
My children and I have Canadian Passports so are able to move back to Canada.
I understand I will have to either sponsor my wife for PR or she could apply as a skilled worker.
My wife is a University Lecturer and holds a PHD in Health.

What is the best route to take? Sponsor my wife or she apply as a skilled worker?
Can I apply to sponsor my wife even though I have not lived in Canada for the past 15 years and we all still live in England?

A spousal application via London takes about 4-6 months to complete (the website average is 8 months). A skilled worker application can take as much as a year or more just to be assessed. Additionally, your wife is visa-exempt, so she could actually arrive in Canada with you and the children as a visitor and the application would be processed regardless.

I suggest you go the spousal route, it is definitely faster. You can definitely sponsor her regardless of your absence from the country for 15 years. You will be required to submit proof of your intention to reside in Canada when she is approved for PR, so you will need to document your plans on how you will be re-settling: work plans, school for the children, etc etc.

The spousal route is the only choice unless she has a permanent job offer from a Canadian company. Her occupation is not on the list of those currently being accepted in the FSW program without a job offer.
