Living in canada with expired PR - When can i send a renewal application?

Well my PR has expired in august 2014. Me and my family managed to enter Canada without being reported on 30th June 2014 - Praise god!

Now we have completed around 16 months, have a small town house, working with kids in school etc. I am anxiously waiting to renew my PR, reason being I want to be
in a position to travel out of Canada and even enter without any issues.

Question
1. Would it be ok to send in my PR renewal application now even thou I have not completed around 500 days so far or should I actually have to wait till I complete 730 days?
2. God forbid for some reason I will need to travel out of Canada before I get my new PR - What can I do so that I can get back to Canada?

Looking forward to have some honest inputs from all you lovely people. Thank you

1) No - of course it's not OK. You have to wait until you have AT LEAST 730 days of residency in the last five years. If you apply now, your PR status will be revoked and you will be asked to leave Canada.
2) You need to do everything possible to avoid leaving Canada until you have met the 730 day residency obligation. If you have to leave for some reason, you may have trouble returning and keeping your PR status.

Hi Scylla,

Thank you for being very clear with your answers. I guess have to wait few more months and apply.

In fact yesterday I was in two minds to call CIC and explain my situation and have their feedback on what to do.

Thank you and Have a wonderful day!

You were lucky enough to enter without being reported so why would you want to mess it up by applying early?

If you must travel outside Canada before you can renew your PR card, you need to think about whether this potential need to travel is worth losing your PR. Being outside Canada with an expired PR card and not meeting the RO is not the best place to be.

Hi Leon,

Your right I guess I will stick to completing the 2 years.

The reason I brought my questions on this forum is to reconfirm as I have been hearing different stories from people, and the common one is that if your few months away from completing the 2 years your fine to apply.
Anyways thank you for the confirm
