Living in Canada on work permit | "Place of Birth" change in Indian passport

I am an Indian citizen currently living in Canada on work permit. I have both my WP and TRV valid for next few years.
The "place of birth" (POB) in my Indian passport doesn't matches with my official "birth certificate".
I just got my birth certificate recently to process my PR application.
I filled my PR application with place of birth as mentioned in my birth certificate as i was told that passport is not a proof of "POB" and only birth certificate is.
People here are advising me to correct the POB in my Indian passport. I checked with Indian consulate here and it will take atleast 4 weeks and i will be issued with a new passport having new passport number.
My question here is:

1) If i get a new passport (with new passport #), what happens to my old passport? Will it be cancelled and destroyed?
2) My current TRV and WP is based on the old passport #. Should I transfer them to my new passport or keep both and continue to use it?
3) Is there a process to make correction in my WP or should i reapply everything?

I am sure many of you would've done this. Can you please help me out here?

I don't know how the Indian government process their passport, but it is most likely the same as ours, when you go and apply for a new passport, I'm assuming they want you to apply in person in the Indian embassy or consulate.(usually if it's a biometric passport) After they have put all the information in to renew the passport the officer doing the application, will void/cancel the old passport BUT they will not cancel the documents that are in it like your TRV, because you are still allowed to use it with the new passport. If you will ever need to travel, you have to show the old passport and the new passport together.

My current work permit has a different passport number as my work permit, because I got it changed to my married name, so now my WP has a different name and passport number.lol.

I am not even at the least worried about that. They can always check your old passport to compare info. Be more focused on having your passport match all your documents that you need for the PR.
