I've gone through the immigration site for the required documents and required back up information and frankly it's confusing. I seem to find different pages telling me different things as to what to provide.....for example:

Proof of income to support your trip? So the visitor applicant has to show proof of bank deposits or pay stubs just for the approval and then show cash in hand when they arrive to Canada to prove sufficient funds for the trip too??

Family information: This has to be completed showing ALL family members in the visitor's country even if they're not accompanying her?

Basically, I'm cheating and asking those more knowledgeable than I in this new process as to please provide the list of documents required to be supplied upon when applying? I know they have a check list and even this is confusing as to what's NECESSARY rather than wasting a lot of time completing forms that aren't required.

Visitor is coming for 3 weeks from Bogota, Colombia. Staying with me. We will supply a list of tourist locations we'll visit and a friend in Montreal that's here also. She will come with sufficient cash to support 3 weeks in the country as a visitor.

Thanks in advance. I hope it's not too bold to have someone do the work for me as far as supplying some info in a very confusing process.

Yes

No. Bank cards exist.

Yes: only the applicant's parents, spouse, siblings, and children, if any.

Did you come across this page?
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/visa.asp?countrySelect=CO#applications

Also, how is she applying? By paper, or online?
The only absolute necessary forms for Colombia are IMM 5257 and IMM 5645, the family information form. The rest are only to be filled if applicable.

If you're talking about documents, just IMO, since Canada decides visitor visas based solely on passive documents (and not interviews, such as the US), it really doesn't hurt to overdo it, especially on proving ties to one's home country, because those documents are the only chance an applicant has. So just think of what this visitor can submit to prove their ties and the purpose of their travel (a daily budget and itinerary, as you mentioned below).
What I'll tell you is what isn't necessary: paid flight tickets, paid hotel bookings.

If you are hosting her, it wouldn't hurt to also provide an invitation letter with your contact details, your finances, certificate of employment, proof of status in Canada, and a utility bill if you are comfortable.
