Hi,

I have a work permit in Canada and have been working there now for a couple of months. I have also received my permanent visa. I left Canada last week to come back to my country to finalize my permanent visa process. I now have my permanent visa and will be returning to Canada next week and landing as an immigrant. As I have been living there for a couple of months now, all I am taking with me are some clothes and my laptop. My question is, how detailed the list of goods has to be? Do I specify the clothing items? Can I present my items in groups? Can someone help me with this?

1. Go to the CBSA site and get the B4 and B4A forms. You need 2 sets, 1 for goods to follow (if any) and goods accompanying http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/forms-formulaires/menu-eng.html
2. Any electronics/jewelry/high value items should be listed separated with serial no., jewelry (if valuable)should have a picture and valuation.
3. Other goods can be grouped, i.e. 4 boxes used clothing, 4 boxes kitchen utensils. etc.

are you allowed to take insulin and inhalers on board?
which airline let you take more weight? I think Going over the pacific gives you more cusion than over the atlantic.

Hi,

For insulin use during the journey in the flight, better to take 'Insulin Pen' which is easy for use and safe to carry in the flight. The security staff may perhaps object injection needle. As you are aware, Most of the European Airport Security will throw even drinking water. Any kind of liquid, creme, paste.... etc are also not permitted to carry inflight. Recently the security check is more strict.

There is no problem to keep the Broncho Inhalers ( like Salbutamol, Beclomatazone.. etc) during travel in he flight.

The baggage allowance is now limited to 23 kg x 2 pcs (by piece concept : checked baggage rules)for economy class in almost all airlines flying to & Fro Canada and US.

Which airliner you recommend, I was able to take 35X2=70 Kilos in 2004 to Pearson. I traveled in Asian Airlines. Is Cathay Good?

Hi,

That was in 2004!!. Things have changed now and still some changes are anticipated in the near future. Some airlines are already reduced to one pc X 23 kg instead of 2 pc starting from European sector.

Till 2005 Sept, in economy class, I carried 2 pc x 32 kg by Lufthansa, KLM and Air India. But, in 2006 March I was told by Lufthansa that they reduced to 23 kg instead of 32 kg per pc. As per my knowledge since 2006, airlines allow 23 kgx2pc in economy class. 32 Kg per bag is allowed for business class. Any how, you can check with your airline, before planning to book a flight.

There are lot of good airlines like: Lufthansa, British Airways , Cathy Pacific, Air India, Jet Airways, Emirates, Ethihad, Qatar Airways...., You can decide according to the schedule and air fare. Consult your travel agent.

The prime reason they have reduced the weight is more weight means more fuel required for the aircraft to fly. Anyways, Thanks wilson.

I am planning to land in june by Etihaad.Not booked yet but If it is 23kgx2 per person it means for three I can take 138 kg in check-in and total 21 kg in cabin bag RIGHT?

Most airlines r now permitting ONLY one [1] check-in baggage (w/out additional fees) of 23 kgs. Even Etihad, Emirates, BA etc. Thus for 3 it is 3x23=69 Kgs only.

No Qorax. I am sorry, I could not agree with you. Pammi is right. I just booked my tickets with Emirates they will allow 2x23kgs.per persons with 7 kgs in cabin bag. To be more sure you may check the website of emirates.

The free checked baggage allowance for economy class, to Canada from Euerope is now limited to 23 kg and ONE pc.
From other countries to Canada is still 2 pc x 23 Kg + 7 kg cabin baggage. As on today there is no change for this rate applicable for "piece concept".

So, for 3 passengers in Ethihad= 3 x 2 x 23 = 138 kg + 21 kg cabin bags.

Uhh, I'm sorry. U guys must be right.

From here (Dubai) they didn't allow me those 2 x Check-in baggages. I have booked with BA, with 23 x 1 only [that's what my e-tkt shows]. Though I do not need any more, thus I didn't pester or Xcheck. My folly on the previous post.

You are correct.

Many people get confused because the airline website/timetable/ any brochure specify that : Baggage weight is permitted is 32 Kg. That is the maximum permitted weight and not the "free allowance".

Current free baggage allowance for most of the leading airlines to/from : Canada
to/from: The Middle East, Africa, Asia, Australia - Economy Class 2 checked bags
Each bag at a maximum 50 lbs (23 kg) and 62 linear inches (157 cm)
