Hey there!

I wont be doing this for quite some time, but I'm just curious if there's a list of physicians and/or physicians offices that are designated by CIC for the medical exam? I know that some people have to travel to complete theirs, and I'm just curious!

I'm in Alabama, if it helps.

Also, what does the medical typically entail? I have 2 "pre-existing conditions" (hydrochephalus - 2 VP shunts) and I've had a retinal tear that has been treated. Neither of these have affected me for some time (hydro in 10 years, retina in almost 5), and otherwise I have a clean bill of health. Would this affect whether my application is approved in the Family Class?

There's link on the CIC website for the medical practitioners. Locate your country & state that you're in.

There's also the medical form the Dr fills out...you can find it in the spousal sponorship forms, just saw it last night.

IDK if those pre-ex conditions would dis-qualify you. Thinking if they're looking for more contagious conditions, possibly?

I haven't had my medical done either...so I wish us both luck!

Different offices have different prices, so if more than one is accessible to you, you might want to call around for the best price.

I think the application specifies what tests may be conducted, but expect a chest x-ray, blood test (I don't recall what they were testing for), and possibly urinalysis, in addition to a medical questionnaire performed by the DMP.

1. The list of physicians is available here

2. The details of what the exam entails are available in the DMP handbook

3. Depends on what your status is. Spouses are medical excess-demand exempt and your 'pre-existing' conditions aren't contagious so you shouldn't have issues.

I hate having to use 'pre-existing conditions', but America's insane healthcare system has conditioned me to believe that sort of medical category exists!

Yeah, these are not contagious, luckily, so we should be good.

Thanks, everybody!

My pleasure! I only distinguished between contagious vs not because medical excess demand exempt doesn't cover contagious diseases (e.g., you need to treat active TB before immigrating) ;)
