Life in Calgary

Experts in this forum please advise. I am shifting to Calgary in May 2013. Only worry is regarding kids. I hear that Calgary is having very cold weather. Do kids get chance of playing outside or are they forced to confine themselves to the house because of weather conditions ?

There are days that nobody wants to go outside because it is so cold but it is not every day all winter. They will still have a chance to roll around and play in the snow.
