Hi friends

I am planning to get G1 Licence.

I have licence from India for Motor vehicles valid untill 2020.
Please advice if I can get exemption for G2 and can get G licence directly once i am done with G1 licence.

If yes, which all documents are required to be shown when i go to give the G1 test.
Additional information will be helpful

Thanks & Regards

Pretty well all the information is here: http://www.drivetest.ca/en/license/OutOfCountryDrivers.aspx But you will have to get the "written authentication of their foreign driving experience from the originating licensing agency, or from the Embassy, Consulate or High Commissioner’s office representing the jurisdiction,"

How long have you been driving?

If it is less than 12 months, you may take the written test and get a G1 license. G1 will not allow you to drive by yourself. You must always be accompanied by a fully licensed driver. You will need to complete a total of 12 months (that is including the experience you already have) before you can take the basic road test and get a G2 license. If you take an approved drivers course, they will shorten the 12 months to 8.

If it is between 12 and 24 months that you have, you may take the written test and the basic road test and get a G2 license. G2 will allow you to drive alone. You will need to complete a total of 24 months (including the experience you already have) before you can take the advanced road test and get a G license.

If it is 24 months or more, you may take the written test and advanced road test and get a G license.

See http://www.drivetest.ca/en/license/ExchangeOutProv.aspx for more info.

You also need a drivers abstract to prove your driving experience. The license is not enough. Assuming the drivers abstract will mention India, you should be fine.

Hi megha1,

I have been driving for slightly more than 5 years and now i am in the process of getting BC driver license. I did not show any "drivers abstract" (i assume the rules may be different for certain countries), all i have done is had my original driver license translated. Now i have to take Knowledge test - which is $15, and Road test - which is $50, no additional courses are required.

Good luck!

I also did not have a drivers abstract and I was in AB but then again, I didn't claim any driving experience.

If you go to the ON link previously posted, you see this:

To obtain recognition for more than 12 months driving experience, applicants are required to obtain written authentication of their foreign driving experience from the originating licensing agency, or from the Embassy, Consulate or High Commissioners' offices representing the jurisdiction. The authentication letter must be on official letterhead and be written in either English or French. It must be dated and cannot be more than 6 months old.
