I believe letter of employment is the letter having your job title, detailed description/duties, start and end date etc while offer of employment is the letter when you receive it after you get the job. It has job details like joining date, pay, manager name to report to, terms and conditions etc and you are asked to accept and sign the offer.
I guess CIC requests the offer of employment from candidates who has LMIA. Did you get ITA for LMIA or PNP?

For me (and I don't have LMIA, but indicated that I have a current job in Canada under an OWP), I provided the offer of employment my employer gave me when I was first hired, detailing the job, pay, vacation, benefits, hours, etc. Then I got a letter of employment saying that I was employed there, my title, how long I have worked there, my current salary (I've had a raise since starting), that the job was full-time and permanent. I also got a letter of reference, which had those things plus a more detailed description of my job responsibilities.

I'm actually wondering what the difference is too?

I was working for the company under IEC WHV then they sponsored my LMIA and I got a permanent offer letter. However I don't know how a Letter of Employment differs from the offer it's all in the same document.

Job offer letter = future = offer of permanent employment (supported by LMIA) contingent on your ability to obtain permanent resident status. Part of the requirement for "valid job offer"

Letter of employment = past = attesting to dates of employment, job title(s) job duties & responsibilities, hours worked per week, salary/wage/benefits, dates of employment... A requirement for any skilled experience to be recognized...

This is TRUE. There are so many well-meaning but ill-advised contributors on this forum that will explain it differently but what jes_ON said is the correct understanding of these two letters.

There's also a third letter (Reference Letter) but that one is so very clearly explained in the document checklist that it is nearly impossible to get wrong.

I received my new job offer in January so I'm currently working that job offer, included in that letter is everything listed under letter of employment and job offer which you refer to. Past would be the reference letter.

Our immigration lawyer has said the document is good for both uploads.

Letter of Employment = Reference Letter... CIC seems to use these terms interchangably now...

Do we need to submit the LMIA together with any of these documents? Or do they have access to it online through the information we put in, in the questionnaire (LMIA number etc.)?
