Letter from Employer - Spousal Sponsorship OUTSIDE Canada

Hi,

I am just a little confused about the letter of employment requirement. My wife and daughter are Canadian citizens and we are applying for my PR. My wife has been living outside of Canada for 8 years. She works abroad.

Question - does my wife need a letter from her employer to sponsor me? The employer is a provincial government in Eastern Europe and we are worried that it may cause her problems if they find out about our plans, especially as it takes more than a year to get get the PR application processed. The sponsorship evaluation form 5481E asks for details about employer and salary but mentions nothing about the letter (it is mentioned in the Document Checklist).

This is especially tricky as employers here ask for the reason why you need a letter and they include it in the letter.

Thanks in advance

I wouldn't worry about the letter . They are trying to find out how you are going to support yourself when you get back to Canada .Instead show any savings you have and write your plans of how you are going to live financially when you arrive back to Canada. Its a generally question for sponsors living here in Canada.

Thanks for the advice. I am worried though as it is on the checklist and I've read a lot of horror stories on these boards about applications being held up over the fact that not every box is ticked.

A question on savings as well - we have a joint savings account in Hong Kong and a small savings account (about CAD15k) in my wife's bank here in Serbia in case of emergency. Do I need to explain all this to them or is it enough just to attach the two statements showing the total available to us and my wife's letter about transferring our savings to Canada?

I am still awaiting sponsorship approval so I can't speak from experience but when I sent our application I included a letter from my job (I told them it was for filing Canadian income tax). We also included copies of bank statements although technically it is not required to show but I thought it could help to show that we will not be struggling for money when we arrive.

Employer's here always insist for the reason why you need a letter so we are just worried if they keep on digging.

I get what taffy7 is saying about them just wanting proof of funds but it is worrying how many people have had problems despite providing proof of funds just because they did not tick a box on the checklist...

BTW, are bank statements enough or do you need transaction history et al?

I sent in my initial contract and recent pay slips showing that I still worked there. I explained in the app that asking my employer for a letter would have jeopardized my job.
