Hi Folks
Usually, the US grants a 10 year multiple entry b1/b2 visa to Indian citizens regardless of the validity of the passport.
Is there any such clear visa policy for Canada or is it different for different applicants? What is the usual duration of the visa that Canada issues?

Well, the US usually grant one year multiple entry b1/b2 visa to Chinese citizen (if applied in China) regardless of the validity of the passport. So do you know if there are any clear visa policy for USA and their usual duration of visa that US issues?

USA has with each country, what it calls a Reciprocity Agreement. The agreement with India clearly states a B1/B2 visa of 120 months i.e 10 years. Here's the link:
http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/fees/reciprocity-by-country/IN.html

However, I can't find any such information for Canada.

Canada only issues Multiple entry TRVs to the expiry date of the passport.

Thanks for that! So, does that mean if someone has about 9 years to go before the passport expiry, they are most likely going to get a TRV for that length of time? Or does Canada usually issue TRV's of different length of time, on case to case basis?

It is likely done on a case by case basis

They only give you until the life of the passport only if you're an exceptional case, that you're an extremely low risk to overstay.

Case to case basis. If you are very low risk of immigrating then they will give you as much as your passport's lifespan. Also it depends in what is your status, for example a worker with a solid case will get a TRV until the expiry date of his Work Permit.... and so on...
