Left Canada after Citizenship application - what timeframe does RQ relate to?

Hope you can help!

My friend applied for Citizenship but then left Canada to go and live in US - permanent move. He met all the criteria for citizenship when he applied but has not been called for the test. He is still using a Canadian address for CIC. He will come back to Canada to take test.

If he gets RQ now, will it apply to the time before he applied for Citizenship (where he has proof of living in CA) or after this (when he won't as he is now living in US)?

RQ asks for dates and documents till NOW, not just 4 years before application. Cit application + RQ may take longer than 3 years, so he can lose PR status and become inadmissible to Canada.
