Leaving Canada while applying for the PR?

Hello,

I'm working in Canada with a Work Permit expiring Jan 2007. I have applied for Permanent Residency under the Skilled Worker Program but need to take a leave of absence from Canada for four months, May - August. How would this affect my application for PR and renewal of my WP next January? My job in Canada would still be open for me on a permanent basis.
