Leaving Canada to study abroad

Hello All,

I am a Canadian citizen and looking into options for studying abroad.

Currently sponsoring my wife to come to Canada, application should be in done over the next few months.

Question I have is:
If my wife escorts me while I am studying outside Canada, is the residency obligation still valid (meaning, she still have to be in Canada for at least 2 out of 5 years) or would there be any exception in her case escorting me?

Because she will be outside of Canada with you (a Canadian citizen) - she will be able to count time outside of Canada towards the PR residency requirement (but not towards citizenship).

If she stays with you then her stay outside will be taken as meeting the residency.
