Hi all,

I applied for Inland Spousal Sponsorship in April 2018, received my open work permit in July 2018.

My grandfather has just passed away this morning and I would like to travel back to the states for his funeral this weekend.

Am I able to travel to the states for just a few days while my permanent residency application is still being processed?

I am a US citizen, have a US passport, and hold a valid work permit.

Any help would be appreciated!

You should be able to, but there's always a risk that CBSA will deny you at the border. Small risk, not likely to happen, but a risk.

Bring a copy of your AOR if you have it, your application, etc., and if questioned at the border on your return, remember to tell them that you have dual intent - you have an intent of finalizing your PR, but will leave Canada according to the terms of your present authorizations if the PR is not successful.
