Dear experienced members,

As soon as I receive my passports with visa on them, I am planning to go to Canada for landing with my family in June 2016. We will wait until we get our PR cards and return back to our country. I am intending to work in my country for about 21 months to collect as much money as I can to buy a house in Canada. My plan is as follows:

1- Land in Canada - June 2016.
2- Leave Canada - August 2016 (The current processing time of PR cards is 42 days).
3- Go back to my country from - August 2016 to June 2017.
4- Travel to Canada and stay there for 2 months - June 2017 to August 2017.
5- Back to my country from August 2017 to June 2018.
6- Finally, go to Canada for good and settle there - June 2018.

So in the 21 months after landing I will be outside Canada for about 19 months.

I have read that during the first five years, a PR should stay in Canada for 730 days to retain his PR status, and based on this fact I put up this plan.

What do you think? It is OK?

Is there any risk of losing my PR status in Canada (or my spouse or kids) or complexing my situation if I go forward with this plan?

I have heard that in the airports they may challenge my PR status and I may have to prove that I will be able to maintain a 730 days in Canada!

Please advise me.

Please find the following quote from CIC regarding maintaining the residency period for PR status

Time spent living in Canada
When you are a permanent resident, you can live outside of Canada, but must live in Canada for at least two years in a five-year period. If you live outside of Canada for longer, you may lose your permanent resident status.

Thanks vishalv. However, check the following:

"Appendix A: Residency obligation
Minimum residency obligations

You must meet the residency obligation to obtain a Permanent Resident Card.

If you have been a permanent resident for five (5) years or more
you must have been physically present in Canada for a minimum of 730 days within the past five (5) years.

If you have been a permanent resident for less than five (5) years
you must show that you will be able to meet the minimum of 730 days of physical presence in Canada within five (5) years of the date you became a permanent resident."

How can I show or prove that I will meet the minimum 730 days?

Nothing wrong with the plan. PR card can expire but your PR status doesn't automatically expire along with it. After activating PR status, if you have stayed inside Canada for 730 days in any given 5 year period, you will continue to maintain your PR status unless you voluntarily renounce it or become a citizen or IRCC strips you off that status for some reason. Your plan as described will not negatively impact your PR status. At worst, it delays your citizenship chances, if you have such plans.

Many thanks Asivad. +1

Another question please:
When does PR card expires? after two years or five years of issuance?
