If there really is landlord-tenant relationship existed in between your parents and your Common Law Partner (i.e. she pays rents to your parents), then yes. If no, then of course no.Hi,
I am renting a house from my parents. Can I provide a rental agreement with signature and name of my spouse who I will be inland sponsoring as proof of cohabitation? Wondering if this is okay since landlord will be my parents?
Thanks.
Well, I am paying rent to my parents and my partner lives with me. Does my partner need to pay rent themselves? Also, we're not common law, we are married. If there really is landlord-tenant relationship existed in between your parents and your Common Law Partner (i.e. she pays rents to your parents), then yes. In that case, you can provide your rental agreement singing with your parents without any problem. But this piece of document only shows your address, so your spouse will need to show some of her documents showing the same address to demonstrate cohabitation (I'm sure you know that). Honestly, if you are bothered by the nature of your rental agreement with your parents, you don't have to provide it. You can simply provide your utility bills and driver's license that show your address. I just feel that if not both of your name are on the rental agreement, the rental agreement is not gonna be as useful to be used as a cohabitation proof anyways, so you don't have to provide it.Well, I am paying rent to my parents and my partner lives with me. Hi, thanks for the info. I should have been more clear. Both our names are on the rental agreement. My spouse does not work. We don't have utility bills as it's included in our rental agreement. I thought maybe it might look bad to have a family member be our landlord for documentation purposes. Thank you again! In that case, you can provide your rental agreement singing with your parents without any problem. Oh I see. it's a good thing that both of your names are on the agreement. I don't think it's a bad thing for your parents to be your landlord. It's actually quite common in Canada I believe. Parents either kick adult children out or charge them rents in order for them to remain inside the house....I don't think it'll be a problem, especially when you also have other documents to demonstrate your cohabitation (driver's license, government ID, other general mails showing the same addresses, etc) and relationship.Hi, thanks for the info. Other address documentation is hard for us as he's not a resident, so can't apply for a driver's licence in Alberta sadly. Which is the reason I wanted to include the rental agreement. He's also on my work health insurance plan, and in the process of trying to find auto insurance that will accept his American licence.Oh I see. it's a good thing that both of your names are on the agreement. Anyways, your application is not gonna be solely dependent on a piece of rental agreement, so please relax. There gotta be some other correspondences such as phone bills and bank bills that shows his address and name. I assume he wouldn't use an international sim card all the time when living in Canada.Other address documentation is hard for us as he's not a resident, so can't apply for a driver's licence in Alberta sadly. We do have a joint bank account, but for phone, my carrier said only residents can be account holders, so added him as a line under my account.Anyways, your application is not gonna be solely dependent on a piece of rental agreement, so please relax. That would work too. Now you'll meet the requirement of providing at least two documents on the list to prove cohabitation. We do have a joint bank account, but for phone, my carrier said only residents can be account holders, so added him as a line under my account.
Thank you! Would more than two be recommended? Nervous to hand in only minimum requirements. That would work too. Now you'll meet the requirement of providing at least two documents on the list to prove cohabitation.
I don't think it'll be an issue. After they have checked and ensure that you provide the minimally required document your application will be considered complete. As long as your relationship is genuine and can show them by photos and other records that your respective family and friends recognize this relationship, your case should be approved. That proof of address part is not as significant as the genuineness of your relationship.Thank you! Would more than two be recommended? Nervous to hand in only minimum requirements.
That's reassuring, we can definitely provide the latter!I don't think it'll be an issue.
