I am short of around 10 points from CRS 400 target for Ontario Nomination, I am planning to sit IELTS again. would it be worth to learn french and aim for 10 15 points increase in CRS score. I don't know anything about french since i am from Pakistan. is it easy to learn french ? how much time should be enough to learn some mediocre french to reach CLB 6 level.

I would recommend sitting in IELTS again. I had 3 years of learning French, but the way scores are awarded for second language, you'd need approximately an equivalent of IELTS 8.0 to get nontrivial points for second language.

for french speakers, the 400 score does not apply

May this be your inspiration:

He managed to score High on TEF after less than 1 year of studying French (with minimal background). Mind you, his method is not for everyone (which is to start by reading Harry Potter in French).

The TEF, in my opinion, is far easier than the IELTS.

After having spoken English as my defacto first language all my life, I still didn't get a perfect score: (IELTS 9/9/9/8.5 = CLB 12/12/12/12). On the other hand with TEF, I speak at a level where I can only get the gist of what's being said/what I read but I still managed CLB 7/7/7/9.

I'd say give it a shot, but be prepared to invest at least 3 hours a day for maybe 6 months.

FTR, I had taken it in school so I knew the grammar and only needed to improve my vocabulary and listening comprehension.

My post on TEF and French learning here: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/tips-and-resources-to-start-learning-french-t394795.0.html;msg4926123#msg4926123

In summary, 1 year dedicated study to get 10+ points. Please read the above post for tips and links.

Don't get me wrong but if we cannot ACE IELTS after studying English for years, do you really think we can learn french in matter of weeks or months ? . Scoring in French exams may not be easier than IELTS.

I suggest you try to score high in IELTS or try for PNP from other provinces or if your spouse is working did you try calculating points by making her Primary applicant ? . If everything fails, try Australia.

I am in no way trying to discourage you in any way. Wish you All the Best.

Thank you guys for sharing your thoughts... i think its better to sit IELTS than french if learning french is going to take away my year

there is some french language courses aim for immigration.
my friend went for a whole year started from nothing and only got a 6.
btw: the cost is so high

Why is this thread inactive? Improving CRS score in any other way seems improbable for me, so starting to take french lessons. Anybody else thinking the same?
