Dear Senior and all other Members,

If all goes well, I would be soon landing by last week of November and planning to stay in Mississauga area. Initially, I am planning to stay in a temporary accommodation until I can find permanent place to stay hopefully within 2 weeks. This will also determine which neighborhood school my kids can attend. I am already a PR and did my first landing in April 2008. Now I am moving for good.

My children are aged 13.5 , 9.5 and 6 years and presently attending G7, G5 and G1 respectively in a good standing International school in Saudi . Kindly advise if they may face problem getting admission in the public schools as they will miss about 3 months of schooling. Do the schools have any additional classes for student to catch-up the missed schooling days.

I know its a bad time to land during the freezing month of Decemeber, but due to personal and work related issues I dont have much choice. I am really worried please give your opnion.

Thanking you all in advance for your valuable suggestions. ???

Kind Regards,

MeGUY

Your landing@anytime of the yr wouldn't make any difference to your kid's school admission. The school (any school) will admit your children anytime, even in mid term, or just before the school holidays too. Its by law.

Dear Qorax,

You are really great with an unquestionable dedication to make our life easier. Your other posts to help and guide the new immigrant are just awesome.

I hope my kids can adjust in the school even missing out approx 3 months of schooling.

Thank you for your support and God bless you.

Kind Regards,

MeGuy

The only problem you may have with the older child is course availability.

My 15 year old son, too started mid term and we did not fully have the full choice of courses available for the first term. We had to scratch around a little bit, to make sure he maintained his full Grade 10 credits.

But the schools are helpful and will try and fit in as much choice as they can. One thing I did find here, the schooling is far better than in the UK (where we came from) and my son did struggle initially with the work load but had great support and caught up easily.

Hi angelbrat,

Thanks for your post and further clarifications. I hope my 13 year son can adjust to the school system quickly. Since my son will attend G7 (middle school) , may be he will not have to go through courses selection for G7.

Apprciate your response.

Cheers and have a nice day!

my 9 y.o. son arrived to Canada late March and there was no problem for him to start and continue his schooling in a new Canadian school. Initially he was placed into one grade lower than he was studying at in his country, as they were not sure if his knowledge was right for the one he was supposed to be in. but this schooling year he started right the grade he was due to.
