I took my husbands last name, and wrote it on the application forms, do you think it would be a problem that my supporting documents are still under my maiden name? it may take a while to get them all switched from one to the other.

Thank you!

Your name in the application should be the same name on your passport. You can always change your name after the process.

Where were you married? Are you in process of changing the names on the documents or haven't started?

I'm just wondering how your name is changed on the marriage certificate.. We married in Egypt and it has my maiden name. You should use your maiden name as that is the name in your passport. You can change all your documents once you receive the PR visa.

It does have my maiden name on the marriage certificate. It says that I went from my maiden name to my husbands name. I have no problem re-writing my maiden name on the applications just want to make sure it doesnt cause any problems since it shows on my marriage certificate that I went from maiden to husbands last name.

But you really didn't. None of your identification is in that name. You have to go by what identifies you, not of your intentions of taking his last name on a marriage certificate.

Im sorry I didnt specify that I am the sponsor. Im not sure if that makes a difference. Not sure what you mean by "but you really didnt"? I signed myself as my husbands last name on the marriage certificate. But I havent changed my name on any of my documents, no. Not yet.

I am a canadian citizen as well and the sponsor. Until you formally change your SIN, DL, Passport, anything to identify you.. you are still technically going by your maiden name. You could write in your application that you are intending to change all your identification to your married name. A lot of wives don't even change their names so it really doesn't make a difference.

I have also changed my name to my husband's last name and the majority of my ID's now reflect the change. I am a naturalized Canadian citizen, and I read that it can take 10 months for me to receive an updated citizenship card. Will I need to keep my citizenship card for the sponsorship process, or should I submit it to have my name changed? If I need to keep it, will it be a red flag if it's still in my maiden name?

If you have a passport identifying you as a citizen there is no harm to get your citizenship certificate changed during the process. It wouldn't be a red flag if you keep it you just didn't get around to changing it.
