I have a question, so I got married with my wife in Costa Rica.... we are almost done in our process for sponsorship, we got decision made on ecas so they will be probably returning my wife's passport soon! my question is, once she gets here, how would I change her last name to the same one as mine? what procedures would I take? thanks.

well she just has to get all her identitys changed with the last name...like her passport, and when she gets a sin card...and health card....DL..and you just need your marriage certificate..
correct me if im wrong

hmm thanks for the info im still very confused on how I would do this once she has landed

She would likely need to change her PP through her country's embassy after she lands. When I changed mine here in Jamaica, I submitted my old PP, the form required, my original marriage certificate (meaning a copy issued by whatever authority issues these things in her country) and paid the required fee to the Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency. I got it back the next day with my married name. I didn't hyphenate my name, but I could have, I am not sure of the rules for Costa Rica. Any other ID issued by Costa Rica that she needs to change can probably be done through the embassy as well.

You'll need to pay a fee to change her name on her PR card after it is received, I think it is $50.00.

She will have to use whatever name is on her ID to open her bank accounts etc, but as soon as her ID is changed, she can take the marriage certificate and new ID to them and they will change the name on the accounts.

SIN, HEALTH, DL, PR card - with existing PP ( with origional surname from PP and marriage certificate, you can do this the time you will the forms or ask for a change request )..
PP - Coastarican embassy here in Canada ( this has nothing to do with Canada )

Just make sure the PR card name matches the PP name.

I married a Tico, and I changed my name in Calgary. It's so easy. Really, the woman is only assuming the last name and she will still be her original self with maiden name.

I went to AMA and just changed my AB health care, drivers license. Super easy. Any registry would work. I know she won't have a credit card from Canada, but for mine, I just had to email a name change request and fax my marriage cert. copy. My passport is still in my maiden name as it doesn't expire yet. If any flights are booked, just make sure it's exactly as her current passport. Hope that helps. The AMA website has a lot of info on name change
