Language tests for the Federal Skilled Worker Program (Express Entry)

Hi to all!

Need some help from you considering the English tests results that are necessary to be submitted.
My situation is following: I was born in Ukraine, and have studied in the UK since 2011 (first at MSc program, then at PhD program). Initially, I passed IELTS Academic Test in 2010 in order to be eligible for MSc program. Afterwards, the UK degree was considered the substitute for the IELTS Academic Test.
Now, I am considering to apply for Canadian Express Entry scheme (Skilled Worker). The most important question for me is following: do I really need to pass IELTS General, if I have 2 UK degrees and 5 years of working and studying expirience in English-speaking country (the UK)?

Thank you for help in advance.

Thanks for reply. Will know that I need to pass this procedure again.

Does that sound a bit ridiculous, provided that person (me) has an experience of working and studying in the English-speaking country (UK), and that's exactly IELTS is designed for to test? Just another measure created by beaurocrats to satisfy themselves rather then reveal the truthful state of things...

If you've read through the details of the Express Entry system, you'll know that different points are awarded based on different levels of English proficiency. The only way this can be equally assessed for all candidates is if they all take the same standardized test.

Although you have completed two degrees in English and have worked for a number of years in the UK, your post does contain a number of grammar / sentence structure errors. This is part of what the general test will assess to determine your level of English and the number of points you will obtain under Express Entry for your language capabilities.

Just to make a point here, "English" is not the only native language used in the UK. It is quite possible to study and work using only Welsh (Cymraeg) for example. I know many people that speak Cymraeg as their first, or in some cases, only language.

I think even US citizens need to take the IELTS GT test.

Living in a certain country does not imply that you speak a certain language to a certain degree.

If you find it so ridiculous, you shouldn't have a problem with just taking it and getting perfect score :p

the only problem is money and time, which I obviously lack.

It only takes a couple of hours and you probably have a testing center on campus or nearby.
And, come on, you can spare the 200 Euros with two degrees and a job in the UK... Put it into perspective of all those people from countries that make a tenth of you.
