I am going to try landing tomorrow via land border and wanted to know a few things.

During landing, will they ask me for an address to send the PR card to, and can I have it sent to a relative? We are moving soon for military work so I need it sent somewhere else and forwarded by relatives to whatever address we end up at.

If I intend to bring my items a year or more from now (we don't know when we would bring them as we have a lot of things up in the air right now from military and are waiting for a more stable setup) do I need to bring some sort of goods to follow form with me? If so, where would I get this form from? I don't have any goods coming with me right now and I wonder if there is a time limit for importing items.

Do I need to inform CiC if I move (within Canada) very soon after landing?

And last, what is the process of landing at a land border like? Do you remain in your car during it or do they have you park somewhere and go inside of a building?

Thanks :)

1. google "BSF186 Canada", and the form will pull up for you to print and fill it out with the items you intend to bring later. There is also the supplemental BSF186a form if you need more room for your items. All you need to do is check the "goods to follow" box and submit it at your landing.

2. no, although they will ask you what address you want your PR card sent to, so you want to make sure to give them an address you plan to be at in Canada. It can take months to get the card, so if you move before you receive it (or can't accept mail at the address given), you'll need to contact IRCC to change your address with the PR Card processing centre.

3. the landing process is about 15 minutes. they ask the questions written on your COPR, you initial/sign, they sign, stamp, ask for the address to send your pr card to and send you on your way as a PR. if there is a wait and if you have items to declare, then it will take longer. you will have to get out of your car and do the landing procedure at immigration inside the border office. the primary window officer will direct you where to go.

Is there any time limit on the goods to follow list? Like would I be able to bring my items in 5 years or so or would it expire by then?

After checking Google, I found more than one post saying there was no limit.

What about if I've been living in Canada since 2014? I will want to land by flagpoling, probably (if possible?) show up at Lester Pearson and ask someone there how I can 'land', or is there a special person/office there to do that? I won't have any items, as all my stuff is here already :p and what about things like health card, is that something we fill in during landing too, or do I need to go to Service Ontario with COPR? Do I get to keep my COPR after landing? Asking, because right now I have insurance until September based on my WP, but would like to go and have it "normalized" as a PR asap, not knowing if it's not going to take 3 months for OHIP to process this or not.

If you want to land 'inland', you must make an appointment with CIC to do this at an office. Otherwise, you must physically leave Canada (by land, air, or sea), for however short a time, and re-enter in order to land. You cannot simply drive down to your local airport to do it.

I see, thanks! So I guess it's gonna have to be either as I travel, or a drive down to the US crossing with Niagra (I applied outland) - I guess I can tell the US officer, though, that I just want to land in Canada, right?

You will need to go to Service Ontario for the health card. My COPR had two copies - one with my photo on, one without. When I landed, they kept the version with the photo, and returned the other one to me to keep. That's what I took with me to Service Canada to get my SIN, and also what I took with me to get my G1 this past week. You can use the COPR for the health card as well. I have to wait on that because I just landed and have nothing from the proof of residency list, so I need to wait until my license actually arrives in the mail in a few weeks. I believe OHIP will take 90 days from when you land regardless of how fast you apply for it.

Thanks - that's why I think I'm going to go asap - I was hoping that because I've already lived in Ontario since 2014 and had OHIP since 2015 there wouldn't be a wait, but if there is, then I'd rather do it when I still have my WP-based OHIP until Sept.2017 - I'm going to be giving birth in September, so here's hoping there will be insurance! ;)

Thanks very much for your replies :)

PS Landing outland, apart from my passport, do I need to take anything else with me? I assume that if they give me a customs form to sign I can just, truthfully, say that I have no goods travelling with me/at all, as I moved to Canada 3 years ago? ;)

Hmm. I'm actually not sure what happens with your OHIP coverage given the circumstances you mention there. Someone else who's been in that position might have a better answer.

I had all my documentation with me that was relevant - marriage certificate, my birth certificate and my daughter's - in addition to the passport and COPRs. I wasn't asked for anything but the COPRs and the passports, however.

Since I was moving all my stuff, I had already filled out a form with all my stuff on it. We came through with a 26' Uhaul. I'm not sure what you'd need to fill out (if anything) if you aren't bringing anything with you at the time of landing and have no goods to follow.

Thanks Dana! I think I'll just wait for COPR and then figure out where to land, and then will just go there and see what happens ;) Same with OHIP - I am assuming, even if it does take 90 days for the new one to come through, I'll get to keep my old one seen as how it's valid! ;)

I landed today and they only needed my passport and CoPR. They asked for my husband's (sponsor) passport as well for whatever reason.

Hi Everyone!
I have a doubt. Received mine & my wife's COPR today. My wife's COPR attached photo has a white pin mark on the face and my COPR photo has an ink mark. Will it be a problem during landing in Canada? Also both our photos they had returned has ink marks on them.
Which photo they use for PR Card- COPR attached photo or the alternate photo?
Can we take with us an alternate photo of the same requirement with us and give them those for PR Card?
Will this be a problem during landing? Please help
