Hi, I am planning to do landing on 31st of May by Road from US and stay in Canada for 2 months, look for job, work remotely, get PR card etc and return back to US. Is there anything special I need to do to take my car into Canada. I dont want to export/import and pay duties etc since this is just for short term

Hi,

You will be in a situation where it will be very tricky, as what you report at POE will be noted by the CBSA Officials, if you inform them that you are going to be in Canada fro 2 months, they will surely ask you to import the car especially if you are driving your own car. To avoid this if you mention that you will return after a short while then they may ask you to apply for your PR Card when you move in for good.

But I think the option of telling them your will move permanently after a while will atleast aviod the export/import issue as I have read in the forum that they will give you a form for applying for your PR Card at the time of your landing which you can fill up and fax when you are in Canada, this way you can take the form fill it and fax during your stay as you will be in canada for 2 months, it takes 4-6 weeks to get your PR Card though as per what is seen in the forum, though some cases it has arrived much earlier.
