Hey all

Is anyone able to tell me if there would be issues with flying into Canada once PR is approved and very soon afterwards (like 1-2 weeks later) returning to my home country for about 5 months? I haven't been approved yet, but just trying to map out options.

My partner is sponsoring me, and we are currently in Australia with her using a working holiday visa here, and she is hoping to see it out rather than cut it short. She wouldn't be joining me if I flew over, and I'm studying here so can really only leave for short periods during semester breaks.

Any tips would be super appreciated.

Thanks!

You can return even on the same day.

To maintain your status as a permanent resident, you must live in Canada for at least two years within a five-year period. During this time you must be here physically.

The two years may not need to be continuous. An officer can confirm if your time in Canada counts when you.
re-enter Canada, or
apply for a permanent resident card.
