Hi guys,

I have several questions concerning the landing procedure / the goods accompanying and to follow lists. It has been hard to find detailed information, so I hope you guys can help, since I believe most of you are familiar with it :)

Situation: I obtained y CoPR under the family class sponsorship this summer. My Canadian husband (sponsor) and I are currently still living in Germany with our baby son. We are planning to do the landing procedure (in Toronto) this November while we're visiting family, but only “really” moving there at some point next summer.

Questions:
1. Will my husband/son be with me during the landing or am I going to be on my own?
2. Could it be a problem that the sponsor is not yet living in Canada when I officially land?
3. Regarding the lists (acc. goods and goods to follow): How accurate do I have to be? Can I just hand in typed lists or do I have to use a specific form (i.e. form B4)? Do I need official appraisals on jewelry?
4. Regarding goods to follow: Do they have to be shipped to Canada as a unity or could they be split up (i.e. we would bring a part of the goods to follow with us next summer and ship the rest/send stuff per post)

If you could help me with any of those questions I’d be very happy!
Thanks!
:)

Only the person immigrating has to land. My husband was in the car but I chose to go in alone because we had cats in the car and didn't want to leave them alone.

Sorry I don't know about sponsor not living in Canada. If you got copr then you get to land. Maybe someone else can answer your question.

I did hand written. Not detailed. For example, one box of used clothing. No appraisal on jewelry but they do say take pictures. Electronics need serial numbers. Yes B4 form.

They can be split but list all on before form. This keeps you from paying duty.

Hi there, I did exactly the same as you in September, my wife and children (Canadian Citizens) were with me but it's still the same process. I had concerns as at that point I wasn't sure what goods we would eventually take and what we would leave. I may have a simple answer to your questions.

When I landed in September, I only 'landed' for immigration purposes not customs. My COPR was stamped but then I actually entered Canada as a visitor, this meant that I didn't need to declare any of my goods at this point. We're planning on moving officially in February 2017 so that's when I'll do the customs declaration.

1. My family were with me the whole time
2. No problem at all, my wife was with me and we both entered and left Canada together after a 2 week holiday
3. I would be specific when it comes to expensive items (especially if you have them with you) if not you can write - 1 box clothes, 1 box child toys etc. Also please note the form B4 no longer exists, it's form BSF186 - if your husband is returning to Canada he needs to complete one as well. although note that your goods are all tax free, he will be taxed on anything that is worth over CAD 10k per item. You need to complete one set of forms for good with you (luggage and hand carry) and one form/s for goods to follow (shipping/air freight)
4. I'm not 100% sure but I believe as long as you declare everything initially then they can follow bit by bit over a year (PLEASE CHECK THIS AS I'M NOT 100% sure)
.

I hope that helps, let me know if you have other questions
