Hello Everyone,

Thanks for seeing my post. I have some questions specific to my situation. Please HELP

I live in US. I am going to land in Toronto in Nov-2015. Couple of days after landing I am planning to go to India for a 3 weeks vacation (for a wedding in India) and come back to US. As I am not ready to move in to Canada yet due to some personal reasons.

Do I need to apply for the PR card and SIN this time itself or Can I apply them later when I finally move to Canada?

How about the things that I am going to bring to Canada with me at a later time, do I have to declare it now itself?

Is it advisable to tell the immigration officer that I'll be moving to Canada permanently at a later time and not this time?

In the application, I mentioned my port of entry as Vancouver. Is that ok to enter from Toronto instead of Vancouver?

--
Thanks again In advance.

Hi Gprasad,

I am not sure about others. Regarding POE, you can land anywhere except Quebec.

Cheers,

No, and yes. *BUT*: if you have an address in Canada (friends, relatives, for example), you should apply for your PR card right away & have it mailed on to you (by your friends/relatives) when it arrives. If you don't, you will only be able to re-enter Canada via land border & private car/on foot, unless you apply for a PRTD.

How about the things that I am going to bring to Canada with me at a later time, do I have to declare it now itself?
Yes. Goods to follow form, B4a:
http://www.cbsa.gc.ca/publications/forms-formulaires/b4-eng.pdf

Is it advisable to tell the immigration officer that I'll be moving to Canada permanently at a later time and not this time?
Tell the CBSA agent you are landing as a PR. *If* asked, tell her/him that you are returning to the U.S. to wrap up your affairs there before settling permanently. I.e. Answer only the questions you are asked.

In the application, I mentioned my port of entry as Vancouver. Is that ok to enter from Toronto instead of Vancouver?
Yes, unless you received PR under BCPNP, in which case you would need to land in BC/show proof of onward travel to BC.

Thanks a Ton Lammawitch. I really appreciate your help and time for replying my queries. I have some other other doubts as well. This would help me to plan my trip to Land and Settle in Canada accordingly.

Since, my trip is from USA to Canada to India and back to USA. If I stay only for 2 days in Canada during my initial trip, and leave without getting my PR Card and apply for the PRTD from India, would they reject my request for PRTD as I had only stayed for two days when I landed. Also, do you know how long it takes to receive the PRTD?

For the goods to follow list, Can I include our 2 cars that we are using in US both our cars are financed, do I have to show my car title "now" and should it be clear and free of any loans? However, we can finish the loan on our cars before shipping it to Canada.

Also, I've got some gifts for my family back home in India, should i declare them as my belongings during the landing process?

For the proof of funds for a family of 3 is approximately CAD18.5k. I will be carrying 1000 USD in hand and can I show the rest in the US bank account's statement, or the whole 18K has be in the Ban, besides the 1000 USD with me?

Thanks a lot again.

If you are going from Canada to India then back to the U.S., you don't need a PRTD. A PRTD is a one-time entry document (with limited validity) to be readmitted to Canada. If (see what I said above about land border) & when you return to Canada to settle, *then* you would apply for one, if needed.

You need to put your cars on the goods to follow list, AND follow the requirements for importing vehicles:
https://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/motorvehiclesafety/safevehicles-importation-usa-index-445.htm

Yes you should declare the gifts you are carrying.

Your POF is fine as a mixture of cash & funds in the bank.

Thanks for sending me the info about importing vehicles - Vey much useful.

Please shed some light on PRTD : -

My trip as I mentioned earlier USA - CANADA - INDIA - USA. I am planning to stay in Canada only for 2 days after landing and would be heading to India to attend a family wedding.
During my visit to India, I have to get my H1 Visa stamped to get back to US, if something goes wrong with the H1 Visa stamping process, I am planning to come to Canada instead (I don’t foresee any issues with stamping at this point in time). In that case, I might need a PRTD to enter Canada again by air from India, as my PR Card wouldn’t have been arrived by then. All I am worried is that, are there any chances for the CIC to reject my PRTD request since I stayed only for two days during the landing process?
Thanks so much again.

I think you are worrying unnecessarily about your H1 visa/PRTD. However, no, your PRTD wouldn't be refused because you only spent 2 days in Canada.
