Hi guys,
I recently did my PR landing and thought I'd share a bit of learning. It might help some of you, as this forum has helped me.
1) If you are plan on bringing jewelry and carpets (that is you have listed them on your goods to follow list) make sure you have all the pictures with you. The CIC website was not clear about that and it caused me some grief. Better to be prepared. So take printed pictures, the officer needs to stamp that for you to be able to bring them in duty and hassle free later.
2) I landed via the smaller city airport (Billy Bishop airport). There was no line at all and the officers were very chill. It seemed any little entry (not the grand immigrant entry I imagined). They did not even ask me for proof of funds. The only conversation was about the goods to follow as I mentioned above. No Services Canada section or desk, just sign your COPR, and a quick "Alright, welcome to Canada."
3) The CIC website routinely says that you should apply for your Health card as soon as you arrive. That is not possible and makes immigrants like us look like fools. (I am speaking about Ontario here). The requirement is to bring one ORIGINAL piece stating your Ontario address and mailed to your ontario address such as a utility bill or bank statement. You cannot take prints of e-bills, and you cannot go until you have one of these items. It's a waste of your time and theirs, and they look at you as if you can't read. So, wait a month, get your official statement or bill and then go over to apply for the card. Health insurance only kicks in 3 months later anyway, so you have time.
Hope this helps any of you looking for this info.
