Hi folks,

We will be landing in Canada in a few weeks. Our intended province of residence is Alberta. Hence, we are planning to complete our immigration landing process in Calgary. However, the most convenient flight we can get will take us though Pearson Intl Airport in Toronto. We will have a few hours of airport layover after which we take a connecting flight to Calgary. Seeing as Toronto will be our first point of 'landing' (albeit via airport transit), will this affect out intention to complete the landing process in Calgary? Does this mean we will have to complete the immigration landing process in Toronto?

Your guidance will be highly appreciated.

Typically all passengers must clear border and customs checks upon arrival at the first place of landing when arriving to Canada (including those with connecting flights). Given this, it is highly likely that the landing process would occur in Toronto.

You will complete the landing process in Toronto. The flight from Toronto to Calgary will be a domestic flight, so you won't even be able to get into the customs and immigration facilities.

Thanks guys. Our transit time will be too close to complete the landing process. It looks like our best bet will be to chose a direct flight to Calgary then.

Thanks a lot folks.

Then you might just miss your flight, cause you will HAVE TO (you can't pick and choose) do the landing process in Toronto since it's where you LAND (literally)!
