So my husband and I are looking for tickets back home.
I am canadian returning home, hubby will be landing for 1st time in Canada.

1 stop flight Moscow-London-Halifax is super expensive.
Other less expensive options include stopover in Toronto/Montreal and then final destination Halifax.

Questions:
1. Is it correct that my husband has to land in First port of entry, so either Toronto or Montreal?
And he won't be able to land in Montreal since they have different requirements?

2. How much time would landing take so we can plan stopover time?

Thank you so much in advance

1) Yes - he will land in the first port of entry. No - Montreal doesn't have different landing requirements. If your first port of entry is Montreal, that's where you'll land.
2) I would go with 4 hours just in case immigration/customs is busy.

Scylla, thank you so much for replying.

So he can land in Montreal even if we did not apply for sponsorship for Quebec and he does not have CSQ?
Thats really good news!

Some people have been given a hard time landing in Montreal without a CSQ. If you have an onward flight, then you should not have a problem. Simply show them the onward ticket and explain that this was the best/cheapest option.

Thanks MilesAway!

What complications could there possibly be at landing in Montreal? Just a longer wait? Or more questions and interview?
We will have a ticket to connecting flight, it's just Halifax isn't really easy to be reached from Europe :)

We also would be traveling with out cat. Would he have to clear customs there as well?

From the instances I've seen (read about), they just got questioned more and it took longer. They also had to prove that they weren't going to live in Quebec without a CSQ. In those cases, their journey either ended in Montreal, and they were driving to their home, or they had an onward ticket at a later date.

Yes, you'll have to declare the animal and take it through customs. I have no idea what the procedures are for that, sorry.
