I would like to apply to the collective wisdom of this forum for advice. I'm landing in Canada sometime during the next few weeks, and would like to do this:
- land in Victoria, a small city
- have my PR card sent to a close friend in Ontario
- immediately apply for a SIN number
- open a bank account
- get a driving licence
- go back to the U.S. (I have relatives immediately across the border)
- look for work from the U.S.
What do people think about that? I agree that being in the United States is not the ideal place to try and find a job in Canada, but aside from that, are there any real problems? For example:
- suppose I want to re-enter Canada before I receive my PR card. as I understand it, I can either
1) apply for a special visa in Seattle
2) enter over land using my proof of landing
- as a Skilled Worker applicant, there is no residency requirement in Canada after landing. Correct?
- Do people think I can get a driving licence and bank account without a permanent address?
