Greetings All.
This forum has been a great help time and again for me. So just wanted to share my experience of landing at the Toronto Pearson International Airport.
I was flying in from New Delhi, India on the relatively new, direct flight being offered by Air Canada. It is a non stop flight (14 hours of flight time) and I landed in the wee hours of the day. Around 5 AM. Got to customs and I literally had no one in front of me. Never had this happen to me before
. Most probably because it was really early in the day.
Anyway, the officer asked if I was doing my landing, and I said yes and he directed me to a secondary space to complete my paper work. Again, there was no body in front me and I was called up right away. The officer asked me for my passport, COPR and my address here in Canada. After that, she asked me if I have ever been convicted for a crime and then asked me to sign the COPR. Then she told me that I will have to apply for a SIN and health card and that I have now finished my landing and said, "Welcome to Canada!".
I asked her if I could apply the SIN card here in the airport but because it was so early in the day, there was no one to process my application. I then went ahead to collect my luggage and started walking towards the exit. Now, because I was carrying some money, I was again asked to go to secondary (near the exit) where I had to show the receipts (I had travellers cheques). The officer verified all the information, asked me to sign a document and I was finally done.
The whole process of stepping out of the aircraft and exiting the airport took 25 minutes. I hope this helps and thank you everyone for their feedback over the last couple of years.
Best of luck to all that are still waiting.
Cheers.
