Hi, can anyone please help me? I am in different situation here.

I got my passport stamped with visa required for landing in canada(Landing time is given for 5 months only). As you all know this is just for one time entry. Now I also need to get my passport stamped for my USA H1B extention at the same time. My questions are below for everyone who can help me or provide me some information.

1. Can I land in canada and come back within a week? If I dont have any friend living in canada what can I do in keeping my PR status? can I fill some form which will allow me to return back after sometime? I definately want to migrate to canada in future but I have a job in US for another 6-8 months.

2. Can I go for landing and also get my Us visa extention done at the same time? Would there be any problem with canadian govt as I am going for landing and returning back to US at the same time?

3. Do we need to open bank account and medical cards in canada even though Iam returning back to USA immediately?

4. What other things to be taken care for landing in canada?

eAny information on these points would be very helpful. Thank you

The only problem if you don't know anybody in Canada is that they will mail you the permanent resident card so you need an address for it to be mailed to and somebody there who will fed ex it to you in the US or bring it over there. If you could stay in Canada for a month, enough time to get the PR card, that would be better. Maybe if you find a motel to stay at for the week, you can ask the people there if you can give the address to immigration as your address and if they can send it to you if you leave them some money.

That is basically the only problem to do with landing and leaving. As as PR, you are allowed to live outside of Canada for up to 3 years out of every 5. You do not need to open a bank account or register for health care when you land. It actually might be hard for you to register for health care because you have to prove that you are a resident so you might have to wait until you have some bank statements and utility bills sent to a Canadian address.

Hi.
I am finding myself in the same situation as you were in 2008 and do not know what to do. I can drive and come back but I guess by then the PR would not have arrived . Plus I do not know if I will be able to drive back in to USA withOUT a stamped H1. Please let me know about how you resolved your situation as I believe that sometimes if you drive to Canada from US for a short while they do NOT detach your I94 but not sure if the I94 is still attached , a stamped visa is required or the extensions would serve the purpose. Would really appreciate your help !!! Thanks

No, it's not true. I can even courier my daughter's Canadian passport to China and back to BC.

True for some countries. For example it is illegal to courier or mail an Indian passport to India or from India.

To all who have questions about how to return back to US with unstamped passport, read below. This is my landing experience from last year. Hope it helps!

Wonder wonder port !!!!
I fee like giving you a hug buddy :)
Just one question
I read on the US customs website. They have stated that the AVR rule is valid for F or J visa holder. Did I interpret it correctly ?
I believe that you were on H1. Just want to make sure since I will not have more than 7 days of leaves and if I get stuck in Canada then its game over as my wife has to complete her 4 years of fellowship in the US and she has already completed 2.5. So all of this wil go to waste
Thanks again for such an elaborated response. Would really appreciate if you or someone else can put some light on the AVR. I believe your experience is from August 2012 so its kind of recent.
