Dear all, I just think of the problem of SIN# change after landing.

Do I need to update my SIN card right after landing ?
If needed, do I need to inform my current employer right away and change it?

I am leaving this company in at most 2 months. I don't want them to know that I am leaving because of getting PR. If I tell them my new SIN #, they will know it..........

Please advise! Thanks a lot!!!

I think you are meant to due to tax reasons. Don't quote me on it though!

Why would they assume you're leaving your job just because you got PR? Surely that would secure your position for longer if you choose to.

Yes, you need to update your SIN and inform your employer.

How does telling them your new SIN number mean that they will know you plan on leaving? All it means is that you have landed and are now a PR.

My company thinks I OWE them MY LIFE because of PR.

Keep on reminding me they helped me and save me so I should devote all myself to them. And whatever they say to me (including bad words), I have to accept all of them. The company also has no management. BCPNP require applicants stay in the same company during the whole process.

That's why I have to go and do not want them to know it is because of getting PR successfully, then they will not play any tricks on me!!!!!

Again, they aren't going to know you are quitting just because you give a new SIN number.

I don't get the logic. Your boss use the PNP process to tie you up and thinking it can go on forever, not because s/he doesn't want involuntarily let you go because your status runs out? If that is the case, it sounds like a toxic environment to work and maybe should leave anyway.

But that just me.

On the other hand, your 9XX XXX XXX SIN number has a expiry date. When that goes, and you are still using that SIN # (to get paid, get EI, whatever), you might be on the hook when CRA finds out.

I really don't know why you care what they say to you. If you want to go, go. You are not their slave! As to the new SIN, you really do have to get it. Your old SIN expires when you get PR, and if you continue to work under it there's a chance YOU could be in trouble, not your employer.

I truly don't know what you think they can do to you, but you have to behave ethically. Tell them your new SIN number then for heaven's sake, get a new job!
