Yet to land
Folks,

I have sent my passports for COPR, now once the visa is stamped, i need to land in Canada before June 2015.

So my question is, can i land in canada by Dec 2014 and complete landing formalities (not sure what activities yet), then leave Canada by end of december 2014 itself to continue my work outside Canada for a while?

Since I am working on other contract outside Canada, need to be there for a while before leaving job and landing in Canada permanently.

So please share your valuable thoughts!

^Yes, why not.
For you not to lose your PR status, you need to be inside Canada for 2 out of 5 years.

great! Do you know what exactly i should do for finishing landing formalities and how long would that take, before returning to work outside Canada? As i am planning for 2 weeks in canada in December, i wonder...Thanks!

That's possible, once you land within a day or so, you have to personally visit to their offices and apply for the following.

1) Health Card (www.ServiceOntario.com)
2) Permanent Residency card from (www.ServiceCanada.com)
3) Open bank account with any bank.

All these can be done in a day or so. Normally, it takes couple of weeks to get these documents to your home. Once you get your PR card, you can go out of the country.

Hope this helps.

You just have to land and say you are here to finalize immigration. They will confirm/ask your Canadian address so they can send you the PR card. You don't have to apply for that as it is automatic. In the website they say processing time is 16 calendar days. You will need your PR card to re-enter Canada.

You apply for SIN card at Service Canada and health card at Service Ontario (if you are in Ontario). In my case it took no more than 30 minutes each arriving early in the morning.

Thanks Turco...Looks like i cant give a hotel address and need to provide some local address for the PR card. Also if i leave canada without PR card, can i ask someone to post the same to me? or it is a violation?

I don't think is a violation to post your PR card. I am not sure if they will process your landing if you mention your are leaving in 2 weeks. It would be helpful if you have a friend who can write a letter of accommodation mentioning that you are staying in his place until you settle (someone mentioned this is a recent post). Probably they will ask for some proof of funds showing you can maintain you family during a certain time. Are they come with you?

They will also ask you to prepare a list of things you are bringing in the future. This will avoid you to pay taxes.

Under the CEC stream, the officers will not ask to see your bank statements or to show proof of funds. That being said, for a family of two, CIC recommends funds of about $11,000.

Thanks for the useful info...Yes i have 2 options either resign from here and pay penalty and come with whole family or wait until end of the assignment here and come to canada just before my PR visa expires in June...I have to choose now.
