Hi Guys,
What wonderful and beautiful comments in this topic. I don't know how many of you are already landed and how many still in dreams. But I would like you tell you a story and let's see what you guys make out of it. I do not want to bore any one but I just want to raise you guy's morale and spirit.
Four years ago a buy came to Canada for studies thinking that he would apply for PR after studies and settle down here. It was good thought, I mean nothing wrong with it. Sooner or later he dropped out of college as he did not like his course and decided he will start next session. He started working with another guy who was a student for some janitor company.
He did this for two months saved a lot of money, you will wonder how much , well enough to keep two people alive for about three-four months, say $1000 savings excluding what he spent for his living.
This is what shattered him at first, a guy from a luxurious family working as cleaner , wiping shit. Well you never know what you will end up doing.
Anyways lets continue, after sometime his girlfriend joined him and she was going to a good public instituition here for masters, she was smart and was eligible enough to apply for PR as principal applicant.
Time kept passing the girl got guy back to college and they both studied gud.
Just when they about to finish studies they decided they should get married so they get the PR together, so they got married and later that month found one of the best attorney's in Canada to represent them (no names). They started their process but things did not go right, they cancelled and went back to their country. Of course they had not dropped the idea of applyong for PR.
After they went back to their country they collected all required documents and found another competent lawyer in their own country who had a tie up with an attorney here in Canada, a very famous and reputable firm ( no names). They applied for PR were not sure at all about how long it would take, ( it took about 5 yrs from their country), or even if they will get it at all. So they started looking for other options like the Working Holiday Visa for London just as a back up, so they applied for this and fortunately got it, they went to London and lived their for two months, of course at the mercy of the white intelligence they could not find jobs worthy enough. Most of all they could not fall in love with London, just like they had with Canada.
They went back to their country and found themselves some decent jobs, just after two montsh they got their file number , they were happy and got some hope. Later their lawyer found them a job and got a positive AEO for them. They supplied the same to CIc, and waited for some time, in three months they got interview waiver and their hopes increased. They kept working in their jobs and waited impatiently for any news. The CIC contacted them again in another month they got request for medicals. These two became so happy and got so sure that they are going to be in Canada in the new year or say in another two months, they left their jobs and started shopping and packaing. I mean can you belive in six months request for medical and if I tell you the country they had applied from you guys will be in shock.
Well, they left jobs and sat at home waiting and waiting, they became restless lots of times and contacted CIC through email a number of times, It is wierd by CIC did respond everytime and kept them updated. Well, finally 9 months passed and no reply. All I know is that sometime in between CIC had sent them a reply telling them that they were doing background checks and security clearance. ANd after a monthe had asked them for their passports and RPRF but that was only a two months after medical appoximately.
When it was only two months left in their medical expiring, they sent an email to CIC mentioning that it is urgent and guess what , the next day they got a phone call from their immigration officer , a white woman saying " I am processing your visa today but it wil only have an expiry of a monthm will you be able to travel". Guess what the girl said " Yes mam, do it now".
In two days they got their passports and they were like on the top the world and they thought , Thank god the exile is over. Little did they know that the exile had just begun.
They were already all packed and ready to fly. They arrived in Canada next week, and were very joyous on seeing the same breathtaking views of Canada as a resident , the ones they only saw a guest.
Now their real search and struggle started, they went from places to places, and looked for jobs, gud thing when they arrived it was Christmas time and they were jobs all around. It took them only a month to find good white collar jobs but what did they get paid, $9.00 and hour and how much was the rent $800/ month plus bills and plus transportation, plus food. They did hurt a bit but they were so happy on just being working as a PR they thought they will get through it.
Well they decided they will move to a cheaper location, and they did and saved some money, they changed jobs due to proximity issues. The guy worked in a warehouse earning $14/hr and the girl worked in a call center earning $9.50/hr. It was good enough for a start. But you see white Vs blue collar.
They continued working but could never save money. With help from family they bought the car and it became a little better. Then a year later they got a raise and bought a house of course help from family. got their mortgage approved and things were all good.
Now a year after, I know the girl is very well working in a bank earning $13/hr and the guy is working as a bus driver earning @20/hr. Let me tell you the girl is ready to leave the bank and work in a mill , becuase believe me its no like bank in your country, may be. Office culture is not like your country's may be.
I feel the guy is more proud of his job than his wife's because it is respectful, the company cares for him, they are ready to make him feel comfortable if he is upset. What do they not do for him.
I told this story just to let you guys know that things are not that bad here if you know what you want. If you care about yourself you'll be fine here but if you care about how other's feel about you, you can survive here.
Let me tell you guys, Canada is gud, its beautiful and it is safe for most of us living in war zone countries, but it is still different. Dont expect to feel belonged here. You may feel like a third person to this country for some time, but dont loose hope, Do what ever job you get it doesn't matter as long as you can stay happy and your family is with you.
You may be a bus driver, you may not be able to tell your folks back home you are driving a cab, but you will know at heart that you are having an opportunity that only a very few people can have. You must also be ready for racism, even if you can find yourself a decent job in your profession, dont expect to climb the ladder quickly, it may take you 10 years to get something while it may only take a year for the white guy to become your supervisor. There is discrimination, there is preference, this is biasness everywhere here but if you just remember one thing you will be good.
Their are two types of immigrants here in this country, one's who are working hard like anything and their are others who just come here and find it a nice place to live and want to earn easy money by foul means. No matter which side of the coin you take they are both envied. Now I will leave it on to you guys to decide why?
In the end just be patient, time will come and when it comes be joyous and think about what all you have been through to achieve this and work hard to make your life better here. Don't think aout what you will do, will you be able to work as a doctor here or a lawyer or whatever. Just be prepared you may not be able to and you may be able to, depends on how you proceed. Another thing, never compromise your family in this country, if you are an immigrant, they will be your sole source of joy and happiness, no money is worth loosing the quality time you could get with them.
I wish you all best of luck and may all of your dreams come true, ( well only the gud ones )
Take Care you guys. Live life as it comes, dont put conditions on life. It doesn't matter what work you do, you will still eat the same food, there is no way you can eat silver or gold or diamonds.
